Congratulations to the first two groups to complete the Get - Fit program!
Will you be the next to join?
United
Disability Services and All-Star Training Club have partnered to provide more
athletic, educational and recreational opportunities for everyone! The
organizations are excited to announce the launch of REACH—Recreation,
Education, Arts, Community and Health. The REACH program provides a
uniquely inclusive environment for people with disabilities to participate
along with family members and friends in leisure activities that promote
self-esteem, sportsmanship, healthy living, creativity and the development of
long-lasting friendships.
Beginning
in February the program will begin offering a diverse range of classes
including craft classes in basic jewelry making, easy knitting, handmade cards,
scrapbooking, cupcake decorating and more. Fine Art classes will include the
addictive art of Zentangle that uses simple lines, circles and shapes to create
abstract, one-of-a-kind tangles; drawing with pencil, drawing with colored
pencils, and painting with watercolors.
A
physical fitness program has also been designed for the entire family. Get Fit
will focus on low-level exercises that will aid in controlling weight,
increasing energy and toning all muscle groups. Martial arts will also be
offered within each session. Rewards will be presented at the end of each
session based on progress.
All
levels of abilities are welcome—no experience necessary. Class fees vary, and
include instruction and all materials. Family members may participate at a
discounted fee. All classes are held at United Disability Services located at
701 South Main Street in Akron; evenings and weekends. For more information, to
register for classes or to volunteer, contact Danielle Marino, recreational
coordinator, at 330-762-9755, ext. 233, or by email at dmarino@udsakron.org.
